Introducing Workshop Retreats


2015 WORKSHOPS
Intimate (7-11 participants) workshop/retreats with distinguished Djerassi resident alumni. Faculty selects participants based on applicant work.

The Program is located one hour south of San Francisco, nestled in redwood trees and coastal grasslands overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Over sixty sculptures and miles of private hiking trails to inspire and renew you. Celebrated chef Dan Tosh’s delicious meals will nourish you. Accommodations are rustic, and the view is spectacular.

APPLICATION INFORMATION & ELIGIBILITY

  • Space is limited. Faculty will select participants based on applicants work within 2-4 weeks after deadline.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Application fee $10

WRITING YOUR BOOK-LENGTH NARRATIVE - A YEARLONG WORKSHOP more info

Description:A yearlong workshop book-ended by two 5-day residencies in the Djerassi Program. Includes monthly ms deliveries and individual monthly phone conferences. Workshop limited to seven participants. Open to writers at all levels of experience. Applicants accepted pending review by Jane Vandenburgh.

WRITING THE DEBUT NOVEL THE NON-MFA WAY more info

Description:The workshop is geared to debut novelists and is well-suited for those writing about difference, race, and social justice. The workshop will include workshop manuscript critiques, time for new writing as well as workshop writing prompts, a private consultation of 50 pages of your manuscript, and talks on actionable steps you can take to start your career as a published writer. Includes up to 50 pages manuscript consultation in private 1/2 hour session with Heidi Durrow. Full novel review available for an additional fee. Applicants accepted pending review of writing samples by Heidi Durrow.

THE EXTENDED NOW – compositional tools for integrating live media/video/sound in performance and installation with Ian Winters www.ianwinters.com
Description: Geared toward performance makers, visual artists and musicians interested in exploring new media tools, the Extended Now workshop with Ian Winters explores technical and compositional strategies for integrating live and interactive media in performance and site-specific installation. Our time is split between the development of technical skills and creating short site-specific interventions, installations and performances, culminating in a Sunday evening workshop performance for students and invited guests.

Description:A workshop in environmental life writing, or place-based autobiography, offering the pleasures of discovering the profound embeddedness of the self in its world. It is envisioned as a hybrid, combining readings in literature with a creative writing workshop; participants may write either creative nonfiction essays or prose poems, focusing on the interrelationship between the self and the environment. Includes up to 25 pages of manuscript review in the workshop and up to 25 in private consultation; critique of longer manuscripts is available for an additional fee. Applicants accepted pending review of writing samples by Ann Fisher-Wirth.

YOUNG ADULT NOVEL WRITING

Description: A fiction workshop tailored for writers working on YA novels of any style and genre, featuring daily critique sessions and time to retreat and produce new work. Includes 75 pages  (25 for group critique; 50 in private conference) of manuscript review. Full novel review available for an additional fee.
