The mission of the Djerassi Resident Artists Program is to support and enhance the creativity of artists by providing uninterrupted time for work, reflection, and collegial interaction in a setting of great natural beauty, and to preserve the land on which the Program is situated.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I will remember the feeling of magic in the old barn that told me I had to dance there the first moment I stepped foot in it. I will remember the conversations with other artists over amazing meals. I will remember dancing on grass, cement, leaves, wood, paper, and anywhere the mood struck.

Please join us on Sunday, June 1, 2008, for an exhilarating SUNDAY SALON featuring a poetry reading by two nationally recognized poets, Jane Hirshfield and Al Young. Both artists, alumni of the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, will do a private reading at Tosca Café, the legendary North Beach landmark. Designed to enlighten and engage our audience, each Salon includes a Q & A with the artists about their creative journey. Enjoy the ambiance of one of the city’s most famous bars and experience life on the creative edge!

Al Young, Poet Laureate of California, is the author of seven volumes of poetry and four novels. The recipient of numerous awards, including the Pushcart Prize and a New York Times Notable Book of the Year citation, Young’s new book, Something About the Blues — An Unlikely Collection of Poetry, was just released.

Jane Hirshfield, the author of six collections of poetry, received the 70th Academy Fellowship for distinguished poetic achievement by The Academy of American Poets, an honor formerly held by such poets as Robert Frost, Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams, and Elizabeth Bishop. Her most recent book is After.

RSVP BY MAY 27; RESERVATIONS ARE LIMITED. Admisson is $50 per person, which includes complimentary wine & hors d’oeuvres, and a no-host cash only bar.
