To Market To Market
2000
Ann Weber and William WarehamThis piece was originally created for a collaborative exhibition at the Oakland Museum, and is on loan from the artists who were in residence in 1999. Weber's large organic forms filling the wagon resemble roots and tubers, elementary foods common to every culture. Initially constructed in cardboard, the forms were cast into fiberglass for durability in the outdoor setting. the wagon, buit by Wareham, is reminiscent of both the early immigrants' Prairie Schooner and a large-scale market basket. together, elements convey ideas of survival in a modern society and serve as a heroic image at the entrance to the residency property.
