Waterwheel
1984-85
2001
Mel Henderson

Mel Henderson created the Waterwheel out of local materials: redwood, maple and willow, as well as manila jute rope to tie the components together. The water, pulled from the Harrington Creek, creates enough energy to move a smaller wheel of sticks which causes a hammer to literally and metaphorically stamp out the word "EVIL" carved into a rock below.

Henderson a founding member of the Bay Area conceptual movement has created several works on the Djerassi property including two cave pieces entitled Solstice Cave and Observation Shelter.
